Methodology

Some pieces are built from models made of paper, cardboard or wood, which are resized in the fabrication stage.  Other sculptures begin as large pieces of metal.  All are made of aluminum.  “Metal limits you to planes and shapes and lines,” Clegg says.  “Paradoxically, these same limitations free you to find the beauty within those shapes.”

The pieces are painted in a three-step process involving a primer, pigment and topcoat – similar to automobile painting.  The result is a durable finish that allows the pieces to be displayed either indoors or outdoors.
